United Way makes quality childcare more affordable and accessible in Danbury.
No family should ever have to settle for substandard childcare. There is a shortage of affordable, licensed childcare in Greater Danbury for children under the age of 5. Long wait lists and high costs often force parents to choose care that is unlicensed and potentially unsafe. That’s unacceptable.
Cora’s Kids is expanding the number of licensed, safe childcare providers in Danbury, so parents will never have to worry about their child’s safety and healthy development while they work.

Cora’s Kids
- Recruits and licenses NEW family childcare providers to create more openings for quality care across the city
- Supports CURRENT providers by offering financial assistance and free, local professional development
- Builds on existing community investments, including DanburyWorks, a program funded by the Boston Federal Reserve’s Working Cities Challenge Grant, as well as the Bloomberg Philanthropies 2018 Champion Cities Challenge.
Our goal is clear: create hundreds of new quality childcare slots, dozens of new childcare businesses, and allow families to continue to work and live in financially stable homes across Danbury.

United Way's Cora's Kids program is looking for those interested in becoming licensed as a new home-based childcare buisness as part of a quality network of providers throughout the City of Danbury. Incentives for partners who keep tuition affordable for working households include: licensing assistance, business training, childcare set up with books, supplies and toys, and training in early childhood education.
