Event Celebrated the Company’s Corporate Citizenship and Recognized Two Local Scholars
STAMFORD, Conn. (May 9, 2019) — More than 200 people gathered at The Loading Dock in Stamford on Wednesday, May 8, 2019 to recognize Marc Lautenbach of Pitney Bowes as the recipient of United Way of Western Connecticut’s Heart of Gold Award. Mr. Lautenbach, who is the President and Chief Executive Officer of Pitney Bowes, was the 25th award winner.
Eric Landskroner of News 12 New Jersey served as emcee for the event. Dinner Hosts for the event included Pitney Bowes Inc., Solus, and Synchrony.
“Twenty five years ago, at the first Heart of Gold event, we honored George Harvey of Pitney Bowes,” said Kimberly Morgan, CEO of United Way of Western Connecticut. “So it’s fitting that as we celebrate 25 years of this award we should honor Marc Lautenbach. Pitney Bowes has clearly made a long-term, enduring commitment to corporate citizenship. It’s deeply embedded in their corporate culture. The City of Stamford, and all the communities where Pitney Bowes’ employees live and work, are better off for it.”
The Heart of Gold Award was established in 1995 to honor business leaders who distinguish themselves through philanthropy and build volunteerism into their strategic business plans. United Way of Western Connecticut celebrates the importance of business leadership in building healthy communities through philanthropy and employee volunteerism.
Roberta K. Eichler Heart of Gold Scholarships
The event also recognized two local scholars as recipients of United Way of Western Connecticut’s 2019 Roberta K. Eichler Heart of Gold Scholarships. This year’s recipients are Catherine Caragine of Westhill High School and Claudia Lucien of the Academy of Information Technology and Engineering (AITE). The $5,000 scholarships are awarded annually to support the continuing education of two outstanding high school senior volunteers and is named in honor of the Stamford Volunteer Center’s former executive director. Both young women volunteered extensively throughout their high school careers while achieving academic excellence. Their scholarships will support their college educations.
