Back-To-School 2019 Brings Smiles to Children's Faces

Forty percent of families in Connecticut fall under the ALICE® (Asset-Limited, Income-Constrained, Employed) threshold and struggle to pay for basic necessities such as housing, childcare, food, and transportation. When summer winds down and the new school year is about to begin, these hard-working parents may simply not have the money to purchase the supplies their children need for a successful start to their school year.

This year, because of our generous donors, a total of 820 children received bookbags brimming with school supplies throughout the Danbury, Greater New Milford, and Stamford communities. They were prepared for the upcoming school year and ready to learn!

The impact of Back to School is not only monetary relief for a stretched budget. It provides kids with something that makes them happy and proud. The feel-good aspect of being able to start a new school year with a brand-new bag filled with new pencils and paper becomes an important aspect of how children feel about themselves. It provides a very significant, positive impact on how these kids go forward in life.

United Way mobilizes resources and develops programs that uplift hard-working, struggling families in our community by helping them stretch their hard-earned dollars.

We fight for the health, education and financial stability of our communities and our children. We win by working diligently with our donors, sponsors, and volunteers to cultivate lasting change.
