Seniors Add Valuable Experience (SAVE)

Seniors Add Valuable Experience (SAVE) connects Danbury residential homeowners over age 65 with volunteer service in Danbury City Departments and nonprofit agencies. The SAVE program offers Danbury seniors on fixed incomes additional peace of mind in today’s tough economy.

SAVE benefits both the senior volunteers and the organizations that welcome them into their facilities. The valuable talent and skills these individuals bring to the workplace benefit the city, nonprofits, and the entire community.

Seniors also benefit immensely from participating in community work. Research shows that seniors who volunteer enjoy both mental and physical health benefits and are more likely to maintain their independence.

HOW THE PROGRAM WORKS

  • Seniors who income qualify contact United Way and submit an application. Seniors must be City of Danbury Residents. (The income limit is $66,600 annually for a married couple, $58,700 annually for an individual.)
  • A maximum of 50 seniors can participate each year
  • United Way staff place seniors with Danbury-area nonprofits based on their interests, abilities, and experiences.
  • Seniors who complete 100 volunteer hours with the program receive a $700 property tax credit.
