Holiday Wrap-Up

Community support made the holidays a little more special for struggling families in Western Connecticut.

Giving Fund

Each year, United Way of Western Connecticut partners with The News-Times and Hearst Media on The Giving Fund, which publishes stories of individuals and families who are facing severe hardship during the holiday season. This year, through the generosity of many donors, all cases were fully funded. Donations to The Giving Fund have a life-changing impact on recipients. We are proud that, since its inception eight years ago, The Giving Fund has raised nearly $500,000 to support individuals and families in need. United Way of Western Connecticut does not take any fee to administer the program.

Cottage Street Books, Hats and Gloves

Fifty-five children at Danbury’s Cottage Street School Readiness Classroom received a a new book, a hat and gloves this holiday season, thanks to the donors and volunteers who supported this program. Many of these children may not the appropriate winter clothing to go outside and play during the winter months—and they may not have many books in their homes. This program made the holiday season special by giving them both.
