United Way of Western Connecticut Welcomes New Leadership

New Stamford Community Council and Board Member named

STAMFORD, Conn. (December 21, 2018) — United Way of Western Connecticut has named long-time Stamford resident and member of the Board of Directors Candy Yeager as the new chair of the Stamford Community Council. Additionally, Tracey Alston, an Eversource community relations specialist, has joined United Way’s Board of Directors.

The United Way’s Board of Directors serves as the governing board of the organization, which serves 15 cities and towns in western Connecticut, including Danbury and Stamford. The Stamford Community Council is responsible for identifying community needs, building long-term funding sources and allocating resources to local nonprofit organizations.

“We are thrilled to welcome Tracey to our Board and look forward to a new era of success with Candy as chair of the Stamford Community Council,” said Kimberly Morgan, Chief Executive Officer of United Way of Western Connecticut. “We are in an exciting time of innovation at United Way and we look forward to the contributions of these community leaders to improve the lives of struggling households across Western Connecticut.”

Candy Yeager

Mrs. Yeager, who is also a member of the Board of Directors, will start as chair of the Stamford Community Council in January. She is taking over for Mr. Kurosh Marjani, who served in that role for six years. Mrs. Yeager became a member of the Community Council in 2016 and has served as the chair of United Way’s Heart of Gold Scholarship Committee.

She became an active volunteer in the Stamford community after her two children entered pre-school and then attended Stamford Public Schools. Some of her volunteer leadership roles have included serving as the vice president and president of both Stamford Public School’s Parent Teacher Council and Rogers International School’s Parent Teacher Organization.

She and her husband have lived in Stamford since 1994. She has a bachelor’s in communications.

“Stamford is a wonderful place to live and raise a family and our engagement in the community has only strengthened our affection for this city,” Mrs. Yeager said.

 

Tracey Alston

Ms. Alston works for Eversource, serving communities in the southern region of Connecticut, including supporting seven in Fairfield County. She has more than 25 years of experience in customer service operations, emergency preparedness, community relations, project management, utility operations and more.

Ms. Alston brings to the United Way Board of Directors a number of invaluable skills include problem-solving, compassionate listening and effective communication, which allow her to establish and maintain relationships with local and state officials, as well as community residents and leaders. She is actively involved with chambers and community organizations.

Ms. Alston studied communications at the University of Bridgeport and enjoys spending time with her family.
