Community Task Force Launches Campaign

The Community Task Force aligns community-wide resources with the work of the community Action Networks and address contextual issues that impact families in Stamford by taking action. The Embracing Families/Community Engagement campaign recently implemented their first substantial efforts to educate and engage the community and families to continue collaborating on a coordinated series of outreach efforts.

On January 25, the campaign officially launched and Executive Director Catalina Horak of Building One Community was the first community center to facilitate this initiative. The night consisted of riveting dialogue as they informed parents in the community on our goal to ensure that all youth succeed in education, career and life.

“We are committed to forging genuine community involvement in Stamford Cradle to Career,” said Pam Koprowski, Co-Chair of Community Task Force. “This task force is here to support, inform, and strengthen the efforts of the Community Action Networks by facilitating connections, engagement and resources.”

UConn Stamford Students Leading Students

Our College and Career Access Coordinator Jessie Epstein, has partnered with UConn Stamford to cultivate an unforgettable experience for High School (HS) students called UConn Students Leading Students (SLS).

UConn SLS at the University of Connecticut Stamford Campus is a Shadow Day Program, designed for HS seniors to gain a better understanding of the college environment. During this shadow day, the HS senior student will have the opportunity to observe a college class of the selected class choices, tour the campus with a college student leader, as well as explore the social aspect of UConn by having lunch with their student leader.

This program is designed to increase awareness of the UConn Stamford college campus for all interested HS seniors or seniors who are in the process of applying to UConn Stamford. There will be no cost associated with this UConn SLS Shadow Day Program. Students will be provided with a meal during their program and this will be offered in the Spring 2018 semester, for a 6-week period between February 20th to April 3rd! “I look forward to the success of this 6-week program,” said Jessie Epstein. “I am excited to learn how to improve our future sessions based on our student’s feedback/experiences!
