SC2C in the News

Stamford Cradle to Career would like to present a recent article published in Stamford Plus on the Stamford Cradle to Career collective impact work to bridge the achievement gap:

"Using the information that had been collected, SC2C devised a three-pronged plan for closing Stamford's achievement gap: ensuring that the city's children were born healthy; that they were prepared to start school ready to read; and, finally, that they could successfully transition out of high school into college, a career or occupational training..."

Unstoppable Strive Together Annual Convening Learnings

Check out this blog from StriveTogether President and CEO Jennifer Blatz on the insights and priorities from the StriveTogether Annual Convening “#Unstoppable” held in Washington, D.C. from September 11-13, 2019. Included are links to summaries of the plenary sessions which featured: Stacey Abrams, David Brooks, Cecilia Munoz, Richard Reeves and David Williams.

https://www.strivetogether.org/library/the-cradle-to-career-network-is-unstoppable/

Some key points from the speakers, which align nicely with many of the priorities we’re focused on in our work in Stamford include:

  • Potential of all children: “We refuse to settle for a world where a child’s potential is dictated by the conditions into which he or she is born,” Jennifer Blatz, President and CEO of StriveTogether, said. “We are committed to helping every child succeed in school and in life from cradle to career, regardless of race, zip code or circumstance.”
  • Importance of equity in grounding the work: “We focus on race equity because we know that we have to take on systemic racism and oppression to get better results for kids.” – Jennifer Blatz
  • Collective impact requires space for inclusion and relation: “Other people have to see themselves in our story. You have to be willing to create space for other people’s goals to join yours. That’s what makes it collective and that’s what creates real impact.” — Stacy Abrams, activist, author and civil rights leader
  • Policy is critical to scale/systems change: “Doing, as important as it is, isn’t enough. To get to scale, we have to translate learning to policy so that it can happen everywhere.” — Cecilia Muñoz, New America
  • Data informed practice and policy: “Evaluation is key. We have to move from policy-based evidence making to evidence-based policymaking.” — Richard Reeves, Brookings Institution
  • Family and community engagement: “How do we take this research and empower folks on the ground? More importantly, how do we get on the ground to understand what the real questions are?” — David Williams, Opportunity Insights
