SC2C Summer Update, August 2017

STAMFORD, CT (August 21,2017)-- We want to take the opportunity to share with you a few updates from Stamford Cradle to Career (SC2C) since the Community Action Networks (CAN) last met in June. Below are some highlights from our progress over the past few months:

CANs Submit Action Plans, Receive Approval
  • The Early Grade Reading CAN and Kindergarten Readiness CAN each submitted two action plans to the Executive Team for approval. The Early Grade Reading CAN submitted action plans for the Chester Addison Center and the Stamford Boys and Girls Club. The pilot project at Chester Addison is focused on sustaining the reading levels for a cohort of 40 students enrolled in their 2017 summer program. The pilot project at the Stamford Boys and Girls Club will begin in September, as a year-long pilot with a cohort of 40 students in the 1st and 2nd grade.
Both pilots will incorporate in-school literacy strategies presented by Stamford Public Schools (SPS) personnel during a two-day training session within their afterschool and summer programs this summer. >>View Photos
  • The Kindergarten Readiness CAN submitted an action plan outlining their proposal to expand the use of the Stamford Public Schools’ Preschool Kindergarten Transition Summary (PTKS). Using PTKS as a citywide universal assessment will help inform classroom placement and identification for special screenings. The objective of the CAN’s second action plan is to develop a collaborative model of professional development for kindergarten and preschool teachers that will combine peer-to-peer collaboration and lesson plan sharing. Both the Early Grade Reading and Kindergarten Readiness CANs received approval from the Executive Team for their action plans; and will continue to move forward in the implementation.
  • The Infant Health and Development CAN as well as the Transition from High School to Postsecondary College and or Career CAN have been meeting in small groups to refine their action plans for submission to the Executive Team for approval in the fall.
SC2C Continues National Certification, Plans for Annual Convening on Dec. 7, 2017
  • Stamford Cradle to Career has submitted its civic infrastructure assessment to StriveTogether Cradle to Cradle National Network, to be approved for the next proof point as an Emerging Gateway community.
  • Finally, regular meetings have been held around the development of the second community report, which will be publicly released at our annual community convening on December 7, 2017 at UConn Stamford.
