Stamford Go Before You Show Prenatal and Maternal Health Campaign Kick-Off Set for Friday, May 11

Event to coincide with National Women's Health Week

STAMFORD, Conn. (April 11, 2018) - To help increase awareness of prenatal care and maternal health throughout Stamford, the Stamford Cradle to Career (SC2C) partnership will launch the Go Before You Show city-wide campaign on Friday, May 11, with a kick-off event at 10 am at the Stamford Government Center Lobby (888 Washington Blvd).

Stamford Cradle to Career is a city-wide partnership whose goal is to collectively align community resources to ensure equity and excellence in education for every child from cradle to career. This work is accomplished through Community Action Networks (CANs) centered on key focus areas. The Infant Health and Development CAN is proud to introduce the GBYS campaign to the Stamford community, the first city in Connecticut to promote this effort.

The campaign encourages pregnant women to seek prenatal care in the first three months of their pregnancy and connects them to a prenatal care provider as early as possible in their pregnancy for more positive outcomes. The campaign also educates women on related topics, such as nutrition and finances, healthy practices including nutrition information and financial aid if necessary.

"Access to early prenatal care is critical for all pregnant women as it provides women with a variety of services early during pregnancy that are needed for healthy fetal development," said Dr. Jennifer Calder, Director of Health for the City of Stamford. "The Go Before You Show campaign will not only emphasize the need for early prenatal care but provide women with a resource for being linked to services. The Stamford Health Department is delighted to be a partner in this important public health campaign."

In Stamford, Go Before You Show will be promoted through an integrated-marketing campaign and will include information about Text4Baby, a free mobile information service designed to promote maternal and child health through text messaging. Women who text BABY (or BEBE in Spanish) to 511411 will receive three free text messages a week related to prenatal care timed to their due date or baby's birthdate.
The Go Before You Show campaign is sponsored by the SC2C partnership and promoted by the Stamford Health Department, Optimus and Stamford Public Schools.

The kickoff will begin at 10 am on Friday, May 11 at the Stamford Government Center at 888 Washington Boulevard. For more information, please contact Sofie Sandone, SC2C Project Manager, at 203.883.6717. For more information about Go Before You Show, please visit http://www.gobeforeyoushow.org
