United Way of Western Connecticut Celebrates Volunteerism Through 20th Annual Stamford Volunteer Day Awards

Stamford residents honored for service to the community

STAMFORD, Conn. (January 27, 2017) — This morning, more than 30 Stamford residents were recognized for their volunteer contributions to the Stamford community at United Way’s 20th annual Stamford Volunteer Day. The event took place at the Harry Bennett Branch of the Ferguson Library with more than 120 guests in attendance. Mayor Martin offered welcome remarks and members of the City’s State Legislative Delegation also attended.

The purpose of Stamford Volunteer Day is to recognize “grassroots” volunteers who have contributed their time and talent to the Stamford community. Sandy Weinberg, Principal – State and Local Tax at O’Connor Davies, LLP, served as chair of the awards program.

United Way of Western Connecticut annually recognizes residents for their active involvement in the community. Community leaders nominate volunteers based on achievement and commitment to the Stamford community.

It is so important to recognize the helpers amongst us who diligently and quietly work to meet the needs of the community,” said Kimberly Morgan, Chief Executive Officer of United Way of Western Connecticut. “The critical work of nonprofits is not possible without the help of dedicated volunteers.” 

The following is a list of this year’s awardees:

Outstanding Senior Volunteer: Mary Trehan for her work at The Stamford Museum and Nature Center.

Outstanding Adult Volunteer: Gene Waggaman for his work at Saint Joseph Parenting Center.

Outstanding Volunteer Couple: Barbara Aronica and Peter Buck for their work at ARI of Connecticut.

Outstanding Volunteer Group: Edgehill – A continuing care retirement community Social Action Committee for their work at Children’s Learning Centers of Fairfield County.

Outstanding Corporate Group: Keller Williams Realty for their work at Family Centers.

 

Outstanding Youth Volunteers

Yvette Wolpo for her work at The Stamford Museum and Nature Center.

Peter Leventhal for his work at Inspirica.

Zachary Groz and Jenna Hyman for their work at Domus Chester Addison Academy.

Marina Grandmont, Victoria Keonigsberger and Carli Levethan for their work at Neighbors Link Stamford.
