United Way of Western CT Honored Synchrony EVP and Chief Human Resources Officer Marc Chini at 24th Annual Heart of Gold Dinner

Event highlights the company’s commitment to philanthropy and employee volunteerism

STAMFORD, Conn. (May 29, 2018) — United Way of Western Connecticut hosted its 24th annual Heart of Gold Award Dinner which took place on Thursday, May 17 at The Loading Dock in Stamford. More than 200 people attended the event that honored Marc Chini, Synchrony’s Executive Vice President and Chief Human Resources Leader. The event raised $121,000 to support United Way’s investments in Stamford.

Clifton Benham, Stamford entrepreneur and community leader, served as the emcee for the evening. John Ciulla, President of Webster Bank and last year’s Heart of Gold recipient, presented the award to Marc Chini. Dinner Hosts for the event included Synchrony, GE Capital and Mastercard.

Synchrony is not only a supporter of United Way, but of many nonprofits throughout Fairfield County. We are fortunate to have such a committed corporate philanthropic partner in Stamford.”

The Heart of Gold Award was established in 1995 to honor business leaders who distinguish themselves through philanthropy and build volunteerism into their strategic business plans. United Way of Western Connecticut celebrates the importance of business leadership in building healthy communities through philanthropy and employee volunteerism.

Roberta K. Eichler Heart of Gold Scholarships
United Way of Western Connecticut awarded its 2018 Roberta K. Eichler Heart of Gold Scholarships to Kate Janik of Trinity Catholic High School and Lizzie DeMarkey of Stamford High School. The $5,000 scholarships are awarded annually to support the continuing education of two outstanding high school senior volunteers and is named in honor of the Stamford Volunteer Center’s former executive director. Both young women volunteered extensively at local nonprofits throughout their high school careers and their scholarships will support their college educations. Kate will attend Catholic University and Lizzie will attend Marquette University in the fall.
